Reminiscing Siem Reap

khmer breakfasts in Siem Reap

I just got tagged by a friend in Facebook. It was a photo that I took four years ago in Siem Reap, Cambodia when our couple-friends Kaiz and Rowjie Galang came to visit my buddy and I when long-term backpacking seemed to be viable back then.

This was during that time my buddy Ed and I decided to go on a backpacking trip and lived for five months travelling back and forth Siem Reap in Cambodia, and Bangkok in Thailand. Back and forth because of the visa runs. We treated Siem Reap as our home base because of the cheap monthly rentals. Whenever we need to exit the country, we just crashed at our friend’s place in Bangkok and came back at our small guesthouse when it was time to go back. And when friends from home decided to drop in on us in Siem Reap, we surely welcomed them and prepared food the American Khmer style just like what we did for this adorable couple.

I had to cut that trip short due to a family emergency but Ed stayed and lasted for 9 months living like a vagabond.

It’s these memories that I will forever treasure. I’ve lost almost all of my photos during that trip because of a busted external hard drive except for some which I uploaded in Facebook and seeing this old photo brought back happy memories.

I just hope that my future travel plans will push through as I couldn’t wait to travel once more and create new memories as I explore again one of my favorite places in Southeast Asia.
