Cebu welcomes AirAsia Zest’s first international flight! Starting today, AirAsia Zest is expected to cater to travellers who plan to visit Kuala Lumpur via Cebu City. Daily flights to/from Kuala Lumpur will bring Malaysia closer to the Philippines via its AirAsia Zest hub in Cebu.
Today, AirAsia Zest, the Filipino Low-Cost Carrier that flies hand in hand with AirAsia, voted as the World’s Best Low Cost Carrier, launched its first international flight from Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Operated by an all-Filipino crew, Flight Z2 187 left Mactan Airport at 6:00am and arrived ahead of schedule at Kuala Lumpur’s Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) carrying over 100 passengers.
On the other hand, a traditional water-dousing ceremony welcomed AirAsia Zest return flight from Kuala Lumpur when its Airbus A320 touched down at the MCIA airport at 2:50pm on the same day.
“Today’s inaugural flight is only the first among the many new routes that AirAsia Zest will launch in Cebu. “Our Cebu to KL flight provides yet another link for Filipinos and Malaysians in the areas of trade and commerce but more importantly, we hope to draw tourists from Malaysia to our amazing beaches and natural wonders in Cebu, Puerto Princesa, Davao, Cagayan de Oro amongst others. If we are able to draw even a fraction of Malaysia’s 25 million annual tourists, it will have a significant impact on our tourist arrival record, which translates to more jobs, more food on the table, more opportunities for every Filipino,” Caneba said.
“Staying true to our commitment to give more choices, better value and enhanced service, AirAsia Zest is pleased to announce that we are adding two new international routes from Cebu. Starting December 19, we will start servicing Cebu to Kota Kinabalu and by mid-December we will fly to Incheon, South Korea,” Caneba added.
