The night sky was filled with tiny specks of lights. They were spinning fast like a lightning, each one displaying radiant colors. From a distance, some would mistake it for a shooting star but the Chinese community in Metro Manila knows better. Fireworks were exploding everywhere. It was the Chinese New Year. Every nook in Chinatown was busy with their own celebrations. The deafening sound of the fireworks display became music to everyone’s ears as it was believed to ward off any bad spirits and bring good luck in the coming year.
My friends and I were on our way to Waterfront Manila Pavilion Hotel & Casinos to celebrate this most-anticipated day. The iconic hotel kicked off their celebration with the spirited lion and dragon dances, which was performed by the Philippine Tong Sun Dragon and Lion Dance Group. The sound of firecrackers also filled the air.

Upholding century-old traditions, lucky coins were also thrown to different areas of the hotel including their restaurants, banquet rooms and offices. This practice is believed to attract blessings and summon good fortune, success, peace and prosperity.
And like any other celebration, a lavish buffet spread was awaiting guests at their restaurant, the Seasons Cafe, an interactive lifestyle restaurant that offers Asian and continental dishes.
The food choices of their oriental-themed dinner buffet was a sight to behold.
Anyone who loves to indulge on great-tasting food would find it hard to resist sampling each dishes served. There were so many to choose from.
Chinese sweet delicacies were also available, which is believed to attract wealth and prosperity.
And the Chinese New Year celebration will never be complete without the tikoy or Niangao, the Chinese New Year’s cake made of glutinous rice. Eating tikoy at this time of the year is considered to bring good luck.
When you stay at the Manila Pavilion (check their rates), complimentary breakfast buffet is included and you get to enjoy the mouth watering cuisines prepared by their chef. You can enjoy different food offerings like cold hors d’oeuvres, appetizers, salads, sweets and cheeses.
A live cooking station is also available where you can order freshly cooked Asian noodles. There’s also pasta, a dim sum station, roasts and many more. You’ll surely enjoy the flavorful dishes served at The Seasons Cafe.
The staff at the restaurant are very accommodating too. They make sure they are within arm’s reach to attend to your needs.
